ND Agricultural Mediation Service |
|
| LOOKING FOR OPTIONS? |
| |
The ND Agricultural Mediation Service (AMS) can help. Since 1984, our experienced negotiators and mediators have helped thousands of producers take a fresh look at their operation, and explore options for the future. |
| ASSISTANCE PROVIDED: |
| |
With a number of negotiators and mediators located across the state the AMS provides help to hundreds of farmers every year in a broad range of areas including:
-
Finances
- Beginning farmer ideas
- Farm planning
- Farm production practices
- Seed disputes
- Federal government agency disputes
- State agency disputes, etc.
|
| PROBLEM SOLVERS: |
| |
AMS negotiators and mediators are trained as problem solvers. AMS does not impose solutions on farmers, creditors or others. They assist these parties to come to agreement on a wide range of disputes. |
| REFERRALS: |
| |
AMS provides referrals to farmers in many technical areas such as:
-
Vocational training
- Legal services
- Mental health/farm stress
- Social services
- Accounting or tax advice
- Alternative types of financing
|
| MEDIATION: |
| |
Mediation is a voluntary problem solving process created to help farmers and others avoid costly and often ruinous litigation. Mediators are trained neutrals who work to create a "safe" environment in which disagreeing parties can resolve their differences. The advantages of mediation over litigation include:
-
Less costly.
- Greater levels of satisfaction.
- Faster.
- Allows parties to deal with the entire problem.
- Mediation works. Agreements are reached in two-thirds of all cases.
