ND Department of Agriculture Print
The ND Department of Agriculture takes an active role in supporting economic development. The Department offers financial advice to farmers and ranchers, and supports the Pride of Dakota program. The ND Department of Agriculture is focused on creating new economic opportunities for the State's businesses, both large and small.

PRIDE OF DAKOTA:
  The Pride of Dakota program was started in 1985 and has since grown to more than 430 members. Membership is open to any business that produces, processes or manufactures a final product in North Dakota. Marketing Services sponsors events that allow Pride of Dakota members to showcase and sell their products, make business connections, and learn how to market their products more effectively.

NEW BUSINESSES:
  Marketing Services staff is dedicated to providing personal service. Staff members can access a clearinghouse of information to help new businesses. Knowledgeable staff members are available to support your efforts by linking companies with public entities and private businesses that can assist in:
  • Developing marketing strategies
  • Establishing a distribution system
  • Sourcing product ingredients
  • Accessing funding
  • Listing products and services in a directory
  • Designing product labels and packaging
  • Follow-up support
ESTABLISHED BUSINESSES:
  It's a goal of every new business to become a successful, established enterprise. Marketing Services has several ways to help the established business of any size. Services provided include:

FOOD EXPORT ASSOCIATION (FORMERLY MAITCO):
  Marketing Services works actively with the Food Export Association of the Midwest in Chicago. FEA is a network of twelve state departments of agriculture that work to promote export sales. Member states have access to vast information on international markets. Companies may also participate in the Market Access Program (MAP) which provides funding for various international marketing activities.

LIVESTOCK SERVICES/PLANT INDUSTRIES:
  Livestock Services:
  • Dairy Services safeguards the milk supply and milk products through inspection of all dairy farms, processing plants and haulers. The Dairy Pollution Prevention Program (DP3) helps producers meet federal and state water quality regulations.
  • State Board of Animal Health and the State Veterinarian's Office are responsible for maintaining the health of all domestic animals and non-traditional livestock in the state through inspection, prevention, eradication and education programs. The board also ensures humane treatment of animals, licenses producers of non-traditional livestock and ensures that sanitation and inspection standards are met at livestock auction markets.
  • State Meat Inspection Program provides inspection services to allow meat processors to retail and wholesale their products in the state. The program also ensures that custom exempt facilities meet sanitary standards.
  • The Livestock Division establishes bonds and licenses for all livestock dealers and livestock auction markets. The division also assists producers and producer groups in livestock and dairy development.
Plant Industries:
  • Pesticide Enforcement ensures the proper and legal use of registered pesticides through inspections and investigations.
  • Pesticide Registration is responsible for registering all agricultural and non-agricultural pesticides.
  • Feed and Fertilizer Registration is responsible for registering all animal feed, including pet food; fertilizers, anhydrous ammonia, soil conditioners and veterinary medicines in the state.
  • Noxious Weeds assists county and city weed boards in controlling or eradicating noxious weeds.
  • Apiary licenses all beekeepers and registers all apiary locations.
  • Plant Protection certifies commodities for shipment out of state, licenses and inspects nurseries and greenhouses and conducts plant pest surveys.
  • Project Safe Send helps North Dakota citizens, especially agricultural producers, safely dispose of unusable pesticides.
  • State Waterbank Program provides participating landowners with financial incentives to preserve wetlands and adjacent habitat.
