ND Department of Emergency Services Print
PURPOSE:
  The ND Department of Emergency Services conducts planning, coordination, communications and operations for safety and security of all citizens in North Dakota.

ORGANIZATION:
  The Department is comprised of the Division of Homeland Security and the Division of State Radio and employs 54 full-time staff members.

THE HOMELAND SECURITY DIVISION:
 
  • Operates and manages the State Emergency Operations Center;
  • Prepares and maintains the State Emergency Operations Plan;
  • Participates as a member of the Information Analysis and Fusion Center;
  • Provides Department of Homeland Security grant management statewide;
  • Coordinates state, local and tribal emergency prevention, preparedness, response and recovery efforts;
  • Manages the Public Assistance Program, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and coordinates the Individual Assistance Grant Program;
  • Provides emergency planning, training and program assistance to state, county, city and tribal governments;
  • Ensures emergency plans are exercised;
  • Manages the Hazardous Chemical Preparedness and Response Program; and
  • Coordinates federal support services.
THE STATE RADIO DIVISION:
 
  • Provides 24/7 statewide public safety communications through a communications center in support of federal, state, local and tribe entities;
  • Provides direct 24/7 dispatch and 9-1-1 services for 22 counties.
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA SERVED:
  State of North Dakota.
CLIENTELE SERVED:
  All North Dakota citizens.
