The Northwest Area Foundation is a private foundation located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Founded in 1934 by Louis W. Hill, Sr., son of Great Northern Railway founder, James J. Hill, the Foundation seeks to help communities in its 8-state region (Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon) reduce poverty through sustainable community development.
