ND Department of Career & Technical Education Print

The ND Department of Career and Technical Education (CTE) promotes quality career and technical education as an essential and integral part of education and provides access to CTE programs for the high school, college and adult students across the state. To do that they provide technical assistance for schools and instructors, perform evaluations, and administer state and federal funds for all career and technical education programs at the secondary, postsecondary, including tribal colleges, and adult levels in the state. CTE establishes qualifications and certifies career and technical instructors, career development counselors, and administrators. They also work with business and industry to provide relevant and quality curriculum that is based on industry standards.

Program offerings are in eight areas at the secondary and postsecondary levels and include agriculture education, marketing, family and consumer science, technology education, diversified occupations, information technology, business and office technology, and trade, industry and health. CTE also provides services to schools in educational equity, civil rights compliance, special populations, program evaluations, and authorizing private/postsecondary institutions.

Schools elect which programs they will offer to students, based on student interest, industry demands, and community development.

Adult education and training is available through the Adult Farm Management Program that has served state farmers and ranchers for more than twenty years. The program focuses on farm financial management and business analysis for family farms and ranches across the state. They are a source for a wide range of data that is available on the farming and ranching in the state. Additionally funding is provided to supplement short-term adult training through school districts. This training is community and business driven and involves classes from welding to computers to parenting.
