Bismarck – Senator Kent Conrad and Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson today announced that Marketplace for Entrepreneurs will return to Bismarck in 2009 to mark the 20th anniversary of North Dakota’s largest and longest-running economic development conference.
“We are very excited to be invited back to Bismarck — my home town,” Senator Conrad said. “While we will be in our 20th year, the mission of Marketplace remains the same – to increase economic opportunity for all North Dakota.” Marketplace is North Dakota’s premiere economic development effort. The event brings together aspiring entrepreneurs, universities, foundations and community and business leaders to exchange ideas, discuss the latest innovations and share skills and technology. Bismarck Mayor John Warford, Mandan Mayor Ken Lamont and Chamber of Commerce President Wally Goulet presented Conrad and Johnson with an official invitation asking Marketplace to return to the city on January 13 - 14, 2009. “Work is already underway for Marketplace 2009. The Bismarck and Mandan business and academic communities have all the necessary elements to make this upcoming Marketplace the best yet,” Johnson said Senator Conrad and Commissioner Johnson, the organizing sponsors of Marketplace, announced that Marketplace 2009 will include the Third Annual Marketplace Talent Search, showcasing talented people from across the state. Earlier this year, more than 10,000 people turned out at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks for Marketplace for Entrepreneurs 2008. The annual economic development summit was a tremendous success and drew visitors from across North Dakota and the region with the opportunity to view more than 300 exhibits and participate in hundreds of different workshops. Marketplace also played host to the finals of the Second Annual Marketplace Talent Search in which eight talented finalists — selected from more than 90 contestants across the state — competed for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes, including a recording session with Makoche Recording Company, a Grammy-nominated studio in Bismarck. After an amazing concert, a panel of judges selected 24-year-old Angela Thompson of Thompson as the winner of the Second Annual Marketplace Talent Search. |
